One Kiss by Pacha was the 4th ever release on ZR back in 91. It’s a song originally written by New Jersey’s finest Blaze for Sybil that got shelved. Someone called Dave Lee discovered this unreleased gem on a tape and with Blaze’s blessing remade it with UK soul diva Debbie French re-singing the lead. At the time of release it was a very successful record for Dave when he was first establishing himself as a producer.
Back then the scene was less fragmented meaning “One Kiss” was supported by everyone from Paul Trouble Anderson and Frankie Knuckles to Pete Tong and Judge Jules. Later in the 90s, the song was remixed by Italian duo Fathers of Sound into a deeper proggy workout which found favour with the likes of Sasha and Ron Trent.
The original acapella from ZEDD12004 has also been sampled many times, the most well known example being DJ Flavours crossover hit “Your Caress”.
So fast forward to 2024 and Dave felt inspired to update it, so he called in ‘the band’ to lay down all new live instrumentation and take things back to the original gospel disco inspiration behind “One Kiss”. It’s a powerful funky version that is still focused around the beautiful vocal melody and jazzy chord progression that sucked everyone aboard way back in 91’.
