Who Knew? We knew something was coming but I don’t think any of us realised what a life changing impact the Pandemic was going to bring! It was Saturday 14th March 2020 I had just played what turned out to be my final set for a long time at Spiritland Kings Cross London. Driving home there was an eerie feeling as to what was about to unfold. As it turned out it was the first time in over 50 years that my DJ career had not just slowed down but ground to a halt! At first, we were told maybe a few weeks which led to months, and we are now in the second year as I write these notes. Gigs came to an end the entertainment club and festival business went into meltdown. What to do? Where to move? Having been a part of the inaugural Gilles Peterson’s We Out Here Festival in 2019 which had rave reviews and beckoned a new dawn for Jazz both Live artists and DJs. I had started some preliminary talks with Gilles about starting a show on Worldwide FM. The Release of my second Jazz Dance Fusion Album had been delayed due to the pandemic so what path should I take. I decided to take Gilles up on his Offer so in May of 2020 I started my Jazz Dance Fusion Show on Worldwide FM. My second compilation was released, and the vinyl sold out very quickly and my show went from strength to strength with great support from the jazz fraternity. So now my thoughts turned to a new compilation which became a combination of tracks that had previously evaded a release on vinyl and a reflection of the reaction that new music was getting on my Worldwide FM shows. The whole purpose of these compilations is to introduce you to fantastic talent to allow you to then go and explore all their works and keep this movement moving! The UK has made a great musical contribution to this genre in 2020 – 2021 From London To Leeds From Wales To Scotland and beyond, quality emerging jazz talent which I hope to showcase as we open up the venues. So, this album reflects the essence of the last 15 months reflecting the positivity and feedback the show gained with support from Gilles Peterson and support to do Two double albums from Dave Lee & Danny Ashenden at Z Records. Thanks to everyone who supported the first two compilations and all who support the Radio Show on Worldwide FM. I hope you enjoy the selections and feel the flavour of Jazz Dance & Fusion from Brazil, UK, Japan, Europe, Cuba and all around the globe in this Pandemic World.
